Halloween forecast has both tricks and treats

NOW: Halloween forecast has both tricks and treats

Happy Halloween! As you’re stepping out the door to grab a last-minute costume, grab a light jacket - high temperatures will be in the lower 60’s before dropping into the upper 40’s overnight.

Temperatures this evening will be in the mid to upper 50’s, but the rain could make it feel a bit chillier.

While you’re trick-or-treating, you’ll want to have an umbrella or rain jacket. Scattered showers will be moving through Michiana tonight, but it won’t be a complete wash out - some may be able to get away with seeing little to no raindrops.

But how does this Halloween compare to what we’ve seen in recent years?

Over the past 5 years, we’ve seen big differences in Halloween weather, ranging from highs in the mid 60’s to lows in the upper 20’s across the years. The average high in South Bend is 55 and the average low is 37.

In 2018, we saw our warmest weather on Halloween out of the last 5 years - the high temperature in South Bend was 63 and the low was 44. Just one year later in 2019, we had the coolest Halloween during that stretch of time with a high of only 44 - the low temperature from the previous year - and a low of 33.

Last year was very close to normal, with a high of 55 and a low of 40 in South Bend. This year is expected to be much warmer. The forecasted high temperature today is 63 and the forecasted low is 47. If these numbers verify, it will make 2022 the new titleholder of the warmest Halloween compared to the last 5 years.

Even though it looks like we’ll be seeing our a relatively warm Halloween, you’ll still want to add a rain jacket to your costume to stay warm and dry while trick-or-treating.
