Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County offering informational meetings on homeownership

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County will host informational meetings in January and February for residents interested in learning more about the nonprofit's homeownership program.

The first of three meetings will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in room D at the St. Joe County Public Library in downtown South Bend.   

The other two meetings will be held on February 7 and 16:

  • Tuesday, February 7 - 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
    • Eisen Room inside the Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library, 209 Lincolnway East in Mishawaka
  • Thursday, February 16 - 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
    • Room D inside the St. Joe County Public Library, 304 S. Main St. in South Bend

Habitat for Humanity's homeownership program gives families the opportunity to buy a decent home with an affordable mortgage, according to the Habitat website.

Through the program, qualified families take classes, volunteer and help build their own home.

Qualified families must meet specific gross income guidelines, be able to save for a cash down payment and have at least three positive credit references, including rent and utilities.

Anyone interested in attending one of the meetings is asked to register beforehand.
