Granger Christian School is closing doors after 55 years.

GRANGER, Ind. -- Granger Christian School will not reopen for the 2026-27 academic year, ending a 55-year run after declining enrollment and recent leadership changes forced the school to close.

Families were notified of the decision in a letter dated July 22.

"It's with heavy hearts we share the difficult decision that Granger Christian School will not open for the 2026-2027 school year," the letter stated, adding that the decision was not made lightly.

The school had fewer than 100 students enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade for the upcoming school year.

Pastor Jon Blanchard said enrollment had fallen to an estimated 65 to 70 students. He said the resignation of the school's principal last Saturday ultimately left church leadership with no choice but to close the school.

The announcement came as a shock to many families who had already planned for the upcoming school year.

"Where is my granddaughter going to go? Because most of the schools already have capacity," said Kim Brall, whose children graduated from Granger Christian School and whose granddaughter had been enrolled for the upcoming school year.

Brall said uncertainty about the school's future had lingered for years.

"There's always been this back-and-forthness of, 'Are we going to stay open or are we going to close?'" she said.

Although classes will not resume this fall, the school office will remain open through July 30 to help families obtain student transcripts and process enrollment refunds.

Church leaders said they will establish a committee to determine the future use of the school building. An elder said the goal is to keep the property focused on ministry and serving the community.
