BUCHANAN, Mich.-- This morning at 10:30 A.M., the residents of Buchanan celebrated the reopening of downtown with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The area of Downtown Buchanan had been closed for nearly eight months.
"The reason that this came about is that the infrastructure that is below us, the pipes, storm water, sewer, the water systems, were 100 years old, 1925, this is the honest truth." Says Mayor of Buchanan, Mark Weedon. "This is the oldest infrastructure in the city. That's why we did this first."
Business owners and community members are ecstatic about the completion of the nearly $20 million project, and they look forward to future foot traffic.
Redbud Hardware owner, Joe Krueger, tells AC57, "I think people are very excited to come and see what they've been doing, and what you know, what the extra wide sidewalks are, and the foot traffic will be. So, we're excited."
