GM and Samsung EV Battery Plant coming to St. Joseph County
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. --Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb announced Tuesday morning that the GM and Samsung EV battery plant is coming to St. Joseph County.
The battery cell plant, which is planned to be built just east of New Carlisle at Larrison Boulevard and Indiana 2, will supply GM's growing EV production needs.
Officials say the $3.5 billion plant will create as many as 1,700 manufacturing jobs with an average pay of $24 per hour.
They say construction of the plant will take about two years and they hope it will begin at the end of this year.
They hope the plant will be ready to start production in 2026.
The announcement comes after the St. Joseph County Redevelopment Commission and the St. Joseph County Council gave their final approval of the plan last week.
Construction of the plant will also require about 1,000 jobs during the build.
