Former Notre Dame soccer player makes Olympic roster

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The U.S. Women's National Soccer Team released their roster for the 2024 Paris Olympic games, and it includes a player from their own backyard, but she has also called Notre Dame home.

Paris Saint German midfielder and former Irish standout Korbin Albert has been selected to the 18-player roster to represent the United States. Albert was one of five midfielders selected for the team.

Albert last played for the Irish in the fall of 2022. That season she collected many top collegiate awards, to include Mac Hermann Trophy Finalist, Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Year, First Team All-American and ACC Midfielder of the Year.

Albert became the second youngest player to ever start for the USWNT in a competitive final in the last 30 years when she started in the CONCACAF Gold Cup Final.

“Making an Olympic roster is a huge privilege and an honor and there is no denying that it was an extremely competitive process among the players and that there were difficult choices, especially considering how hard everyone has worked over the past 10 months,” said USWNT head coach Emma Hayes. “Choosing an 18-player roster plus alternates involved many considerations, but I am excited for the group we have selected and I’m looking forward to building on the work from last camp as we head into the Send-Off matches and then onto France. These are great opportunities for us to continue to show the progress we are making.”

Notably left off the USWNT Olympic roster was striker and former co-captain, Alex Morgan.

The 2024 U.S. Olympic Women's Soccer Team will open Group B play at the Paris Olympics on July 25 against Zambia, one day prior to the Opening Ceremonies. The match will take place at (9 p.m. local / 3 p.m. ET) at Stade de Nice in Nice.
