Firewood for home use available for cutting at Potato Creek State Park

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Potato Creek State Park is inviting residents to come out and cut up recently fallen trees at the state park to be used for firewood.
According to Indiana DNR Division of State Park News "Trees eligible for firewood have fallen as a result of natural causes or have been dropped by property staff for safety purposes. They are along roadsides or in public areas such as campsites and picnic areas."
The state park does ask that you obtain a firewood permit before cutting by visiting their office anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Visitors are allowed one pickup truck load for $10 with a load being defined by the state park as "an 8-foot standard pickup truck bed without any modifications."
This opportunity will be permitted from now until March 31.
