Fatal crash in Saint Joseph County

SAINT JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. --St. Joseph County Police were dispatched to the U.S. 31 Bypass and S.R. 2 interchange, for a reported fatal crash, around 10 a.m.

Witnesses reported a red Chevy SUV, going westbound on S.R. 2, lost control as it approached the Bypass interchange, went into the grass median, and struck the concrete supporting wall under the bridge before it finally stopped in the northwest cloverleaf of the interchange. 

When Officers arrived, they discovered the body of the driver, 75-year-old John D. Ulmer, of South Bend. 

Ulmer was the only occupant of the vehicle, and no other vehicles were involved in this crash. 

This crash is still under investigation.
