Fatal crash in La Porte County leaves one dead

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- On July 19 at 11:54 a.m., deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on CR 300 North, west of Johnson Road.
The on-scene investigation determined that a 2010 Ford Explorer was heading west on CR 300 North when it traveled to the left and crossed the eastbound lane.
The car proceeded to travel off the road and strike a tree along the south side of CR 300 North.
After striking the tree, it overturned and stopped on the driver's side.
Gregory W. Crites, the 65-year-old driver from Union Mills, was trapped in the vehicle and required assistance being removed. He later died at the scene.
There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
