SILVER CREEK TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A fatal car crash has been reported at 4:35 p.m. near the intersection of Garrett Road and M 152 in Silver Creek Township.

50-year-old Brett Daniel Underwood from Dowagiac was heading west on Garrett Road from M 152 when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. Underwood was ejected from the vehicle and was found dead at the scene. Deputies believe alcohol and speed were factors in the crash. Underwood was not wearing his seatbelt.

Sister Lakes Fire Department, Dowagiac City Fire Department, SMCAS Ambulance, True’s Towing, and the Cass County Animal Control assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene of the crash.

The investigation remains under investigation.
