Fairfield Falcons open home season with dedication of new track and field facilities

GOSHEN, Ind. -- Before kickoff against John Glenn, Fairfield Junior-Senior High School and members of the community gathered to dedicate the school’s newly renovated track and field facilities.

The project, which took about two years to complete, included replacing the track, installing a full turf field and upgrading sidewalks around the athletic facilities.

Fairfield Athletic Director Chris Griffin says the improvements are a reflection of the school’s student-athletes and the community that supports them.

“We have a bunch of great athletes. Not only do we have kids that are successful in their sport, but they’re very successful in the classroom, tons of high character.” Griffin says.

The new facilities were unveiled to the community ahead of Friday night’s game.

The celebration included a community dinner, bounce houses and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Fairfield Superintendent Dr. Carrie Cannon says the new facilities give students a space that better reflects the strength of the school and community.

“So honestly, what I feel most excited about is that our student-athletes and our band and our cheerleaders and everyone involved have facilities now that really align to how great our community and students are,” Cannon said.

Students also took part in the dedication, sharing their excitement about having a new track and field.

Cannon says crews worked throughout the summer to make sure the project was completed in time for the Falcons’ home opener.

Griffin says the community’s support played an important role in bringing the project to life.

“They contribute in so many ways and they support our school district and our kids,” Griffin says. “It’s second to none. It’s one of the best communities I’ve ever had the privilege of being a part of.”

Friday night’s matchup against John Glenn marked the first of what Fairfield hopes will be many games played on the new turf.
