Elkhart man accused of leading police on chase in Sturgis

STURGIS, Mich. – An Elkhart man was arrested on Monday after allegedly leading police on a chase, the Sturgis Police Department reported.

At 1:17 p.m., Sturgis Police were informed that the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department was in pursuit of a vehicle that was headed into the City of Sturgis from Indiana.

As the pursuit entered the city, Sturgis officers took over as the primary agency.

During the pursuit, the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department deployed stop sticks at multiple intersections, flattening several of the suspect’s tires.

The suspect, a 29-year-old Elkhart man, eventually surrendered in the 69000 block of Texas Avenue, where he was arrested without incident.

He is currently at the St. Joseph County Jail facing the following charges:

  • Fleeing and eluding 3rd degree
  • Violating a personal protection order
  • A separate outstanding warrant
