East Side All-Stars 12U Red Team makes it to Babe Ruth World Series
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The East Side All-Stars12u Red Team is heading to the Babe Ruth World Series.
But before they hit the field, they're hoping the community will step up to the plate.
It's a team filled with a mix of talent from all across Michiana, with some playing ever since t-ball days.
"For them to come together to make this run is something truly special because they work their hearts out. They're working constantly to get better, to improve as a team, and now they have this chance to see it all the way through to the biggest stage possible World Series," East Side 12 U Coach Caity Stockstell said.
The Babe Ruth World Series is a 10-day tournament, starting Thursday, lasting until Aug. 10, that brings softball teams from across the world to Alabama.
The All-Stars had a dominant run postseason, scoring 51 runs, allowing just one and going undefeated to bring home the championship title.
It’s not the first time East Side has sent teams to the big stage with a few runners-up and even one championship title in the past 20 years.
But getting to the world series comes with a cost. Off the field, the team has been selling raffle tickets, volunteering at local events, and organizing a hit-a-thon and even a GoFundMe page to help to raise funds.
Between gas, hotel stays, meals, and uniforms, Stockstell says the cost of a 10-day trip can add up quickly.
She says any amount can help make the dream happen for the girls in a once in a lifetime opportunity.
"I think this is a special group of girls that care a lot about softball and representing their community. I think it's an opportunity for the community to get behind them, rally behind them, and support them in making this trip to the World Series, because they work hard and they deserve it, and I think it's something that a little bit can go a long way," Stockstell said.
