DOWAGIAC, Mich. -- Four dogs and 21 cats were allegedly rescued from "deplorable conditions" in a single residence Tuesday.

Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant in the 29,000 block of Lyle Drive in Pokagon Township Tuesday, seizing the 25 pets allegedly suffering from neglect and lack of veterinary care or grooming.

Deputies have identified the owners and say they will request charges with Cass County Prosecutor's Office.

The owners' names are being withheld pending arraignment, and the investigation remains ongoing.
