Crash on I-80 in Illinois leaves three people from South Bend dead
Bureau County, Ill. – Three people from South Bend have died, including a one-year-old, due to a crash with a semi-truck on Interstate 80 on Thursday, ABC7 reports.
The crash happened on I-80 westbound, east of 300 East Street, near the mile-40 marker in Bureau County, according to ABC7.
Illinois State Police reported the crash took place before 2:45 p.m., when a white Ford Mustang crashed into the back of a semi-truck after it slowed to a near stop due to traffic.
All three occupants of the Mustang were pronounced dead at the scene, according to ABC7.
The victims were a 26-year-old man who was the driver, a 22-year-old woman and a 1-year-old baby, all from South Bend, ABC7 said. Officials have not released their names.
According to ABC7, it is unknown if the 69-year-old semi-truck driver was also injured in the crash.
