UPDATE: Construction extended at Memorial Hospital, traffic now impacted through July 24

UPDATE: The City of South Bend announced the temporary traffic changes around Memorial Hospital’s emergency room will remain through July 24 due to the continuing construction of the new parking lot.

Navarre Street will remain one-way westbound.

Officials say two-way traffic on Navarre Street is expected to resume by July 24.

Emergency vehicles will continue using Main Street to access the hospital's entrance.

ORIGINAL STORY: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Traffic on Navarre Street, near Memorial Hospital, will be reduced to one-way westbound starting July 14 to allow resident and ambulances to access the emergency room at Memorial Hospital during active construction.

"Construction on a new parking lot at the former South Bend Medical Foundation site, located on the south edge of Memorial Hospital’s campus at Lafayette Boulevard and Navarre Street, will temporarily impact access to the emergency room entrance for both residents and emergency vehicles," a spokesperson for the City of South Bend said Thursday.

"Starting Monday, July 14, residents and emergency vehicles will need to access the emergency room entrance from Main Street off Marion Street. During this phase of construction, Navarre Street will be converted to one-way traffic westbound only."

The work is expected to be done by July 18, weather permitting.

"Once this phase of construction is complete, residential traffic will resume using Navarre Street to access the emergency room," a city spokesperson said.

"Emergency vehicles will continue to use Main Street to access the entrance moving forward."
