Congressman Fred Upton played a pivotal role in getting James McCloughan of South Haven the Medal of Honor.

Medal of Honor recipients must be honored within five years of the act of heroism justifying the award.

Legislation passed by Congressman Upton, U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow and U.S. Senator Gary Peters waived the five-year requirement and made it possible for McCloughan to receive the Medal of Honor.

Congressman Upton spoke with ABC57 about McCloughan and the honor he received on Monday.
