SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and other city leaders broke ground on the River Race Townhomes at Niles Ave. and Jefferson Blvd.
That's right across the street from the Emporium.
So far, two tenants have signed up, including former Indiana Governor and South Bend Mayor Joe Kernan.
"[There are] great restaurants downtown. You got the ballpark; that's in walking distance. St. Joe High will be up and running here, ah, in just a couple of months. And good things are happening in downtown South Bend. We're looking forward to moving in," said Kernan.
Some of the townhomes will be ready this fall. The developer also plans to add some retail space.
