SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Chicago Cubs pitcher Mike Montgomery made a stop in South Bend on Wednesday, a day later than his originally scheduled rehab start.
The big-league lefty was set to pitch with the Single-A affiliate on Tuesday, but the birth of his first child delayed that appearance for a good reason.
Once he was able to make the trip, Montgomery started and pitched two impressive innings in a 2-1 Cubs win over the Great Lakes Loons. Montgomery struck out four, surrendering only one hit and no runs before heading back to Chicago for a reunion with his wife and new-born son.
