'Cha Cha Slide' creator DJ Casper dies at 58

CHICAGO, Ill. - The creator of one of the most famous group line-dance songs, DJ Casper, died Monday at the age of 58 after battling cancer.

Casper was diagnosed with cancer in his kidneys and liver in 2016, according to ABC7 Eyewitness News.

The Chicago native released the "Cha Cha Slide" in 2000, which became a viral sensation that is still played today.

In an interview with ABC7's Samantha Chatman, Casper shared that he never thought the "Cha Cha Slide" would have the success it did, and he hopes it will always serve as a reminder of the power of unity, community and positivity.

"Anybody that's going through cancer, know that you have cancer and cancer does not have you," Casper said. "So, keep on doing the Cha Cha Slide.'"
