SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A splash pad, a DJ and food trucks, set the scene for Howard Park's 125th birthday party!

“It’s a little bit more than a park. This is probably our favorite one. We come out here the most often like i said it’s always a good vibe good people good energy,” Davina Ellis, a park goer said.

Shaundra Wilbourn, park goer said “It is very open, family friendly for all ages very airy. I like it, very inviting.”

The South Bend staple park, still amazing park-goers that grew up in town or seeing it for the first time.

“This playground is amazing for the kids and plus the fountain over here is just it’s awesome especially at night,” said Dana LaDuct, a park goer.
The community first opened doors to Howard Park in 1899 and it is a space that offers variety for all visitors with events and the grounds set up.

The park recently remodeled in 2019 to curb concerns of flooding by putting greenery and native plant areas to prevent rising waters.

“The correct sloping so that the water is going back to the river when it does happen to go over the sides,” said Amy Roush, the interim chief development officer for venues, parks, and arts.

The remodel is set to handle the busy calendar ahead. Mark the calendar for September 14 and 15th where they’re bringing out the Fusion Fest, which is a multicultural event bringing the arts, culture, and more together.
