Brandywine Girls' Basketball team advances to state championship for first time
NILES, Mich. - The dream season for Brandywine High School Basketball isn't over just yet.
The 2nd ranked girls' Bobcats team beat 5th ranked Lake City 52-39 in the Division 3 State Semi-finals Thursday, advancing to the state championship for the first time in program history.
This comes just five days after the Brandywine Boys' Basketball team won the state title themselves.
ABC57 was in East Lansing Thursday and spoke with Bobcats' Head Coach Josh Hood and players about the win.
The Lake City Trojans lost their first two games of the season and went undefeated since. They have 6’4" Alison Bisballe at center, who will play at Wisconsin next year. The Trojans were out rebounding opponents by 10 every game.
Brandywine got off to a hot start, leading 13-4 at the end of first quarter and that lead grew to 27-13 at halftime. 'Cats were up 27-13 after three quarters and went on to win 51-39.
Brandywine senior Miley Young led all scorers with 20 points to go with five assists.
Senior Kadence Brummit added 14 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Lake City’s Alison Bisballe finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds.
Brandywine out rebounded the Trojans 33-21 and improves to 26-1 on the season.
The lady 'Cats will play Ypsilanti Prep in the Division 3 State Championship game Saturday at the Breslin Center on Michigan State’s campus.
The Brandywine girls will have a police escort back into Niles Thursday night, starting at US 12 and the US 31 Bypass, leading the team to the high school.
