Bomb squad responds after deputies find IED while serving warrant

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- Deputies serving a search warrant called in the bomb squad after they found an improvised explosive device inside the residence, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

The Cass County Drug Enforcement team executed a search warrant at a home in the 70000 block of Irving Drive in Ontwa Township on Friday.

Two people at the residence were detained while the search was conducted.

Deputies located an improvised explosive device while searching the home.

They halted the search, called in the bomb squad and evacuated nearby residents, reports said.

Once the scene was cleared, detectives resumed their search of the home.

Inside they located a large amount of meth, meth paraphernalia and a firearm, reports said.

A 44-year-old man was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, delivery of methamphetamine, possession of a dangerous weapon and felony firearm.

A 33-year-old woman was arrested on a preliminary charge of possession of methamphetamine.

The investigation is still ongoing.
