SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A local riding group called Crazy Jester is keeping Mercedes Lain’s memory alive and hoping to bring awareness of child abuse and neglect.
They are putting together a routed ‘Sadies Ride’ starting off at 1431 S. Michigan Street in South Bend where they will start to meet up at 9:30 a.m. making their way to Mercedes Lain memorial site.
No registration is needed to ride but the organizers of the ride are asking community members to be lined up ready to go by 11 a.m.
The ride is open to the public and donations are welcomed but not required.
Angela Motheral and Randy Kramer who organized the event says you are more than welcome to decorate your motorcycles or cars in memory of Mercedes and can bring gifts to leave at the memorial site if you would like.
They are also encouraging others to sign the petition to hold local officials accountable for negligence in the Mercedes Lain case.
As of now, a total of 8,522 signatures have been placed out of the 10,000 signature goal.
For more information about the petition and to sign, you can click here.
All donations collected will go towards the family.
