Benton Harbor-St. Joseph YMCA gets a new look for its 100th birthday
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The Benton Harbor-St. Joseph YMCA will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a free open house week.
"Over the past 100 years, the YMCA has been here serving the community. But more importantly, we've adapted and changed to meet the ever-changing needs of our community," said Mark Weber, the CEO of YMCA of Greater Michigan.
The weeklong celebration will take place on Oct. 19-23 where the community will be able to see the upgrades done to the facility.
"We're upgrading our facility with new locker rooms, saunas, things of that nature," said Weber. "Our community is in desperate need of quality, licensed daycare. It's a problem not just in this community but across our country."
They're currently working to establish a community-based daycare center that not only benefits the children and families but is also tied to workforce development.
Another addition to the upgrade is an enhancement to the senior programs, "we work with our seniors to help ensure they maintain mobility and strength to have productive, fun lives, and we've brought in a variety of enhanced fitness programs to help our seniors."
Throughout the week the public is allowed to tour the facility and workout without a membership.
