Benton Harbor Public Safety Director provides update on deadly shooting
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – An arrest has been made in connection with the Benton Harbor shooting that happened Saturday night, according to Dan McGinnis, Benton Harbor Safety Director.
The suspect who has been arrested is Decorey Monte Harris II, a 27-year-old. The alleged murder weapon has also been recovered by police, McGinnis said.
Harris is being charged with open murder, assault with the intent to murder, felony firearm and felon in possession of a firearm.
The shooting took place on a vacant lot, across the street from Robbins Brothers Funeral Home on South Fair Avenue around 8:20 p.m. on Saturday.
There were two victims of the shooting. One has died, and another is in stable condition after recovering from surgery, McGinnis said.
Benton Harbor Public Safety is withholding the victims’ names at this time at the family’s request.
