Bank robbery suspect taken into custody within a block of the scene

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- Michigan City Police arrested a bank robbery suspect within one block of the bank where it happened.

Monday morning around 10 a.m., police responded to the Horizon Bank on Franklin Street for an alarm activation.

Officers spoke with witnesses who said the suspect left with an undisclosed amount of cash and left the bank, reports said.

Officers canvassed the area and located a man matching the description of the suspect near 6th and Washington streets.

Police said they located evidence of the robbery on the suspect, 52-year-old Paul Farkas of Hobart.

Farkas was taken into custody on a preliminary charge of robbery.
