Auditions for spring musical 'Working' to be held at Lake Michigan College Visual & Performing Arts Department

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. --Audition will be held by Lake Michigan College Visual & Performing Arts Department for its spring musical production "Working", directed by Lake Michigan College Instructor of Theatre Dr. Patrick King with musical directoin by Rebecca Derbas-Selvidge. 

Set for Wednesday, November 30 and Thursday, December 1, 7-10 p.m., students and community members are invited for the auditions, which will be held in Deckmann Studio located in the Lake Michigan College Mendel Center on the Benton Harbor Campus. 

Auditioners can register at www.tinyurl.com/WorkingLMC and indicate which night they want to audition. 

Auditioners should prepare a cutting of a favorite pop/rock song from the '60s-'80s or music theatre, along with monologue from the audition packet for the show, which they should also arrive ready to move in comfortable clothing. 

Cast members are requested to enroll in the three-credit course theatre Practicum (DRAM 202) in order to receive academic credit for their work on the play; or they could register as community education participants as an alternative.

All six or more ensembles cast members should be working age, with auditioners from a variety of identities and backgrounds encouraged to audition to help tell the story of who the community is today.  

With the first casting meeting set for December 5, and rehearsals beginning January 17 and running 7-10 p.m., Mondays-Thursdays, technical rehearsals will begin March 5, with Saturday and Sunday rehearsals added at that time, with production running March 10-12, 2023. 

Any students and community volunteers interested in building the set or helping with costumes, lights props, or run crew can contact King; and those individuals can enroll in Theatre Practicum or Stagecraft, depending on their area of availability and interest.
