Andrews University responds to report of recent campus visitor testing positive for COVID-19

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich.—Andrews University on Wednesday responded to reports that a singer who recently performed on campus has tested positive for coronavirus.

Musician Sandi Patty posted to her Facebook page on Tuesday evening saying that she tested positive for coronavirus.

Patty performed at Andrews University in Berrien Springs on March 8 at the Howard Performing Arts Center.

The Berrien County Health Department said that Patty also held smaller in-person experiences after the concert with multiple people.

“With this information, we are actively working with the appropriate Berrien County health officials to immediately understand and effectively respond to the implications of this report,” the university said in a post to its Facebook page.

The health department said that those who had close contact with Patty should self-quarantine at home and monitor themselves for symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, cough, and/or shortness of breath through March 22. If symptoms begin, contact the Berrien County Health Department.

Andrews University made the decision to transition the remainder of its spring semester to remote learning starting March 30.
