Multiple abandoned buildings catch fire on same property over the weekend

South Bend Fire Department

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Fire Department responded twice to a little league baseball complex in the 4700 block of West Meadow Lane over the weekend for reports of flames.

The SBFD responded on Friday, June 28 at 7:39 p.m. and again the following day at 5:50 p.m.

"Firefighters found small fires both times in different buildings on the property. The property currently stands vacant," SBFD officials said. "No reports of injuries to firefighters."

"Shortly before 6 p.m. this evening crews were dispatched to Matthys Little League Park on the city's westside for a fire. Engine 6 arrived to find a well involved two story little league building," the SBFD said. "Members were able to obtain a knock down on the fire by the first ten-minute notification. This is the second fire at Matthys Little League Park in two days. Yesterday crews quickly put out a small fire in one of the buildings on the premises."

There were no injuries in either fire.

The origin and cause of the fires remain under investigation, and the SBFD asks that if you have any information about these fires, contact the South Bend Police Department.
