A Dream Deferred: Irish fall short against Buckeyes in CFP National Championship game

ATLANTA, Ind. -- It just wasn't meant to be for head coach Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Monday night in Atlanta. 

Despite an incredible season, the Irish were just too banged up and overpowered to bring home their first national title since 1988. 

Hope springs eternal for Notre Dame fans, who are already looking ahead to next season and another expected run at the title. 

The Irish fell to the Buckeyes with a final score of 34 - 23.
