UPDATE: Man who died after being struck by a vehicle has now been identified
UPDATE: Police have released more details on what led up to a man being hit and killed by a vehicle in South Bend on Sunday.
After notifying family members, St. Joseph County FACT says the victim is 26-year-old Christopher Kyle Windham who lived out of state.
Investigators found that Windham was sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle before it stopped at a red light at the intersection of Sample and Michigan Streets around 4:45 p.m. While stopped, Windham exited the vehicle and walked to the truck in front of him, which was being driven by someone he knew.
Police say Windham then began to pull on the truck's door handle. The vehicle accelerated after the light turned green. Witnesses told police Windham continued to hold onto the door and run next to the vehicle until he fell and was hit by the truck.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A man is dead after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Sample and Michigan Streets.
On Sunday, around 4:45 p.m., South Bend police were called for a person struck by a vehicle.
Once arriving on scene officers found a man with serious injuries.
The victim was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
His name is being withheld pending family notification.
No other injuries were reported, further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
