GhostLight Theater presents Next to Normal Performance for Benton Harbor community

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The GhostLight Theatre in Benton Harbor presented Next to Normal.

The Tony Award-winning and Pulitzer Prize-winning rock musical follows Diana Goodman, a mother who has lived with a bipolar depressive disorder and delusional episodes for nearly two decades.

"So many of us deal with mental health struggles, and whether you're the person dealing with it or you're somebody trying to help them through it, it's really difficult, and it's hard to do, and I think this story really touches on that," said Kate Acosta, lead actress on the matinee.

Next to Normal focuses on mental health and will run through until June 28.

Ticket information can be found here.

Acosta and Paul Mow the Founder and Director at GhostLight Theater held a post-show talkback featuring cast, crew, and mental health professionals from Corewell Health.

"We have pamphlets out here, we have suicide hotlines, we have all sorts of things. We want to make sure people know that there are resources in our own community," said Mow.

Corewell Health provides behavioral health services across southwest Michigan, including counseling, mental wellness programming, and crisis intervention resources based in Benton Harbor. The Corewell Health behavioral health line for southwest Michigan counseling is 269-429-7727, and the national crisis text line is Text "TALK" to 741741.
