ELKHART, Ind. -- Only two games remain for Indiana teams before the postseason gets underway. With the playoffs on the horizon, the Concord Minutemen say they're taking things up a notch to get ready.
Concord comes into Friday's game at 3-4, riding a three-game losing streak. The Minutemen know how important it is to start stacking wins before the playoffs get underway.
"Certainly, we would all prefer to be 6-1, but we would still have the same deficiencies, and those deficiencies are still there. We've got to stop the run better than we did in the second half last week, we've got to be able to run the ball better than we did last week, and if we don't figure those two things out, I don't care what our record is, we're going to struggle to get on a roll in the postseason," says Craig Koehler, Concord head coach.
Concord has had some truly heartbreaking finishes this season, in games where they were in it the entire time. Three of the four losses have been one possession games.
"In multiple games, we have come up short, but I think it's just that inch that we keep striving for, we just have to keep fighting for that inch because there have been many games that were close, and if certain plays went our way, we would've won, we could be 6-1 right now, but that's if, it's just that inch and we have to keep working for that," says Eli Jahcastaneda, Concord senior running back and linebacker.
Friday night, a tough task for the Minutemen lies ahead, taking on a Warsaw team that has been firing on all cylinders lately.
"We play the number one ranked team in 5A football tomorrow who's 7-0, they will be the best team that we have played, and I don't know what the result of that game is going to be, but I can tell you that our kids have continued to plug away and try to push towards still accomplishing a lot of our goals that we have for the postseason," says Koehler.
The Minutemen and Tigers will kick off from Jake Field Friday night at 7 p.m.
