BREAKING: Suspect taken to hospital after shooting on South Bend's North Side

UPDATE: South Bend Police Department responded to a 911 call for an unwanted person on South Bend's North Side near Corby Blvd and Howard St around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday evening.

According to South Bend Police Department, Chief Scott Ruszkowski, the 911 caller had a protective order against the suspect.

Suspect exited the vehicle with a firearm; officers attempted to detain the suspect for several blocks until ultimately shots were fired.

It is unclear who initiated gunfire at this time.

Police said officers used other methods before the shooting but declined to provide further details.

The suspect was taken to the hospital, condition is unknown at this time.

Mishawaka and St. Joseph County Police Department will be handling the investigation.
