UPDATE: Two suspect arrested in connection with shooting of man on High Street
St. Joseph County Jail: Jerry Taggart, Alex Deforest UPDATE TWO: Two suspects have been arrested and charged in connection with Wednesday night's shooting on High Street which left one man injured.
The South Bend Police Department reports the investigation led to 19-year-old Jerry Taggart Jr. and 20-year-old Alex Deforest being identified as suspects.
During an interview with SBPD Violent Crimes Unit Detectives, Deforest allegedly stated Taggart spoke about robbing someone and showed him a handgun.
Deforest said when they approached the victim, Taggart demanded the victim empty his pockets.
Deforest stated the victim did not immediately comply, and Taggart shot at the victim.
Deforest told police he then hid a gun in the bushes. The gun was later recovered by officers.
The victim told police Deforest handed Taggart the gun right before he was shot.
Deforest and Taggart were arrested and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office has now filed charges against the duo.
Taggart is charged with Robbery, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Battery, and Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon.
Deforest is charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun (prior felony conviction within the last 15 years), and Aggravated Battery.
ORIGINAL STORY: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A shooting was confirmed by St. Joseph County Dispatch on 1300 Block of High Street in South Bend.
There is confirmed to be one victim at the scene with non-life-threatening injuries.
The call came in at 7:21 p.m. and the scene is still active at this time.
