8-year-old killed after he was struck by a vehicle

ELKHART, Ind. – An 8-year-old was killed when he was struck by a vehicle Friday evening, according to officials.

On Feb. 22 at approximately 5:58 p.m., officers were dispatched to the scene of an accident with injuries at 1511 W. Lusher Ave.

According to a press release from the Elkhart Police Department, a westbound red Dodge Ram was traveling on Lusher when two juvenile males ran into the roadway.

The driver was unable to stop in time striking the pedestrians, according to officials.

Medics and officers attempted resuscitation efforts at the scene.

An 8-year-old male was taken to Elkhart General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The condition of the second juvenile has not yet been released.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
