57 Minute Miracle surprises South Bend barber shop owners

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – ABC 57 stops by Cutrageous Barber Shop in South Bend, where the team asks the owners to help them make a 57 Minute Miracle happen.

Seeming to communicate almost telepathically, Otis and Sanita Davis agree that Shirley Pope, who turns out to be Sanita’s great grand aunt, deserves a miracle.

The Davises led the crew to Golden Oak Village, a retirement community in South Bend.

71-year-old Shirley was unprepared when Otis and Sanita escorted the cameras into her room, as she wasn’t even wearing her shirt yet.

ABC 57 gave her a moment to collect herself, before giving her a surprise that would leave her shaking.

When Shirley found out the miracle was $570, she said, “I’m at a loss for words, I really am. I’m at a loss for words, and everybody that know me know that I don’t lose words. I talk all the time, so yeah, this is outstanding. I mean, who would think of me? Little old me, you know?” said Shirley.

“She’s always positive about everything that’s happening, no matter what’s going on in her life, and so being in her situation, I thought it’d be great for her to get a miracle,” said Otis.

Shirley is confined to her bed, thanks to her Rheumatoid Arthritis paralyzing her from the waist down.

“She is my favorite great grand aunt, as she said, and she is just a bundle of joy. She always thinks she’s just here and she’s just here, but she’s like my confidante,” said his wife, Sanita.

“You know you have to stay positive when you’re bedridden or something in this condition, so if you don’t, you will melt away, and you’ll just become a little withered grape, you know, so you have to stay positive. You have to feed positive out there so positive can come back to you,” said Shirley.

She already has a few ideas for how to spend the money.

“I can get gifts for my grandbabies!...and I’ll get myself I don’t know maybe a good bottle of wine, which I’m not supposed to have, but I’m going to have it for the holidays!” she said.
