One dead following Monday morning fire in Knox
KNOX, Ind. -- The Knox City Police Department reports on Monday, June 17, at around 9:34 a.m., the Knox-Center Township Fire Department responded to a garage fire in the 600 block of South Main Street in Knox.
Authorities say upon arrival, firefighters found a two-story detached garage on fire.
Crews also found a severely burned man outside of the garage.
Firefighters began extinguishing the fire and treating the victim while waiting for EMS.
EMS arrived and then took the man to Northwest Health-Starke Hospital where he was then flown to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
He was later pronounced dead due to his injuries.
The man's name has not been released at this time.
Authorities say it took over an hour before the fire was brought under control.
The State of Indiana Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted to investigate the cause of the fire.
