YMCA of Greater Michiana launches $4.4 million campaign

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. - After one hundred years of service and four decades in the current building, the Benton Harbor-St. Joseph YMCA is using more than four million dollars to completely revamp their space.

This project is divided into two phases: phase one focuses on improving the member experience, while phase two is all about expanding reach.

With a budget of $2.4 million dollars, phase one will focus on transforming and revitalizing key areas of the YMCA like the locker rooms, the steam room and cardio space flooring. Additionally, they will add six family style locker rooms to accommodate needs.

For phase two, Benton Harbor St. Joseph YMCA plans to build an additional gym with a budget of $2 million dollars.

Chief Development Officer Jill Haboush says based on the funding; they have raised $1.6 million dollars towards the $2.4 million dollar goal. Once more funds are secured, that’s when they will move forward with the actual project.

Haboush says for the past year and a half, they have been working on a fundraising cabinet committee, who she says has done a great job reaching out to private donors. Now, they are asking for the community’s help to raise the funds.
