UPDATE: The South Bend Police Department says that before officers arrived, good samaritans helped to get the two kids, a 3-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl, out of the burning car.
"South Bend firefighters extinguished the vehicle fire and transported the children to Memorial Hospital," police said. "The children were ultimately transferred to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis for further treatment of their injuries."
There is no update on the condition of the kids, but the mother of the victims was also treated for her injuries.
"The South Bend Police and Fire Departments commend the multiple bystanders who jumped into action to assist upon observing the car fire," SBPD said.
