SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- According to the South Bend Police Department, three juveniles have been detained, and three firearms have been recovered following what the department called, "continued proactive policing efforts by the South Bend Police Department’s Strategic Focus Unit."

Just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, Strategic Focus Unit Officers observed "suspicious activity" in the area of Ford Street and Bendix Drive and attempted to stop three juvenile pedestrians.

Police say that when they attempted to make contact, the three kids fled from the area, leading officers on a foot chase.

"All three juveniles were ultimately taken into custody," SBPD said. "One of the juveniles was found to be in possession of a firearm. "SFU officers also recovered two additional firearms in the path of the foot pursuit."

All three were taken to the Juvenile Justice Center, but the investigation remains open.
