Police warn of ‘emergency’ email scam

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – Michigan City Police are warning email users to watch out for the “emergency” email scam.

According to the department, the scammer will hack an email account and use the contact list to send an email describing an emergency situation and ask for money to resolve it.

The scammer will also personalize the fake email, hoping the victim would believe their acquaintance is in need of emergency financial assistance.

Police say if you receive an email in this nature, contact MCP at 574-873-1461.
