Multiple vehicles on fire against Elkhart structure fire

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – This morning around 4 a.m., Elkhart Fire Department first responders arrived to a structure fire on 1803 Fieldhouse, as well as discovered multiple vehicles on fire up against what was found to be an auto-shop.

The department reports the area of origin to be the vehicles, but as of today an investigation was started by deputy fire marshals to discover the cause of the fire.

First responders recounted that there had been a collapse of the office area ceiling which hampered crews from reaching all areas.

When conditions intensified all crews were evacuated and exterior defensive operations with an aerial apparatus were started, only able to return and control the fire after a short period, stated the report.

The fire department reports that no one was injured, but significant damage was caused to the building and the surrounding vehicles.
