Several organizations are gathering for big celebrations in South Bend this afternoon and they’re calling on you to join them. That celebration is the commencement of black history month and local leaders are also calling on some other groups to join in on celebrating.
After getting such good feedback over social media the word has gotten out, but organizers say there’s room for more.
Local leaders are teaming up with students from Notre Dame, Saint Mary's, IUSB, and Bethel as they celebrate Black History Leaders: Past Present and Future. It’s the first collaborative event with all four black student organizations here in 2018, but that’s not all they want to see. Local leaders are asking that everyone in the community join in alongside these students, specifically saying they would love to see as many students from all surrounding colleges and universities there, as well as prominent leaders of South Bend.
The celebration starts at noon and runs until 3:00 pm at the Civil Rights Heritage Center in South Bend.
