The Notre Dame football team will take on Miami of Ohio this Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium. It is the first time the two teams have played since 1909.
Even though the teams haven't played in over 100 years, Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly knows Redhawks Head Coach Chuck Martin very well.
Martin was an assistant coach for Kelly at Notre Dame and at Grand Valley State.
"He'll do a great job in preparing his football team. He does a great job of handling these kinds of games, as well. You just need to look at the games where he's played on big stages. They do a great job of controlling the football. I think they average almost 34 and a half minutes time of possession offensively," Coach Kelly said. "So you have to be extremely efficient with the football offensively. They don't give up big plays defensively. So you're playing for a lot of -- for you folks that follow us, this is a lot like playing Navy in the sense that you've got to be extremely efficient on offense against them, and you've got to obviously keep the points down because they're going to do some really good things."
Martin was the offensive coordinator for the Irish in 2012 when they played for the national championship.
