Lake Michigan College sets sights on millage renewal for August ballot

Lake Michigan College

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - Lake Michigan College will put a millage renewal proposal on the August 8 ballot, hoping voters will say yes to supporting certain school programs for another 20 years.

The college has campuses in Benton Harbor, Niles and South Haven.

The current millage generates nearly 25% of the college's total operational budget. It will expire with the 2023 tax levy.

School officials said renewing the millage would not increase taxes but will instead freeze the LMC tax rate for residents for the next two decades.

With the renewal, the school hopes to sustain programs like workforce development and the school's police academy.
