ELKHART COUNTY, Ind.-As the saying goes, an act of kindness can go a long way. One that a Michiana woman started is spreading all across Elkhart County.

Tarina Wills started Elkhart County Kindness Rocks.

The movement involves painted rocks that have anything from motivational quotes, flowers, sports teams, animals or anything on them that could brighten someone’s day.

Wills says she saw a woman from Cape Cod online who started the movement in her neighborhood and was inspired to do the same.

“I think with this, it’s so simple,” Wills said. “There’s not a lot of money involved and people can get together because this is a family activity,” Wills said.

Tarina created a Facebook group called “Elkhart County-Kindness Rocks!” Nearly 700 people have joined since it was created a month ago.

“The response has been overwhelming,” Wills said. “I’m enjoying seeing the families get together and paint the rocks. There’s no limit to who can do it,” Wills said.

To join the movement, first, you have to paint rocks to “hide.” You can write or paint anything that promotes kindness and inspiration.

Post a picture of your rock artwork to the group page and provide a hint of where you hid your rock. Then, hide them in local parks, neighborhoods, shops, etc.

When you find a rock, make sure to post a photo to the group. You can either keep it or re-hide it for someone else to find.

If you create rocks, you’re asked to write “#ElkCountyRocks FB” on the back. It will direct people to the Facebook page.
