INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—The city of Indianapolis will test a new way to fight the opioid crisis.
In an effort to reduce the amount of unused prescription pills, the city will hand out thousands of small Deterra bags.
According to DeterraSystem, the activated carbon inside the bags, when mixed with water, deactivates most prescription drugs.
Deterra bags also help prevent pharmaceutical contamination from reaching clean water sources.
If the program is successful, it will be expanded to other parts of Indiana.
