GOSHEN, Ind. - Students at Goshen Intermediate School got an early start thinking about their future careers at the simulated town of J.A. Biztown on Friday.
They got to feel what's it like to have a job and juggle life's responsibilities.
J.A. Biztown is a fully simulated town made up of 14 businesses.
Students got to step up and learn what it means to keep a business running.
They had to manage staff, work as a team, do accounting, and balance professional and personal responsibilities.
Rachel Hughie, Capstone Manager for Junior Achievement, stated, "So, financial literacy and career and work readiness at a state level is a big thing that we're getting pushed down through the school system. And it's important for us to build up these skills in our students so that they are prepared for the workforce someday."
On the consumer side, the kids were able to step into their parents shoes by receiving a paycheck and a debit card with a challenge to make good choices on spending.
And as adults all know, it's a lot harder than it sounds.
